HeadSpace Counseling was founded in 2012 to provide quality counseling services to children and adults in our community. Audrey Atkins, a seasoned therapist and LPC-Supervisor, spent many years honing her craft working in and then providing clinical direction within some of the most reputable outpatient and inpatient mental health treatment settings in the DFW area (Sante Center for Healing, Green Oaks, The Renfew Center, Nexus Recovery Center), before devoting her time and expertise toward opening her own practice. Since that time, HeadSpace has gone from a part-time to a full-time passion, able to address issues that are often affecting the entire family unit.
At HeadSpace Counseling, we provide a safe, comfortable, and judgment-free environment for children aged 3 to 10 (through play therapy with Carey Nottingham, MA, LPC), as well as individualized therapy for adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Our specializations include but are not limited to:
- Addiction and Recovery (Substance as well as Process Addictions like gambling, sex, shopping, tech, etc.)
- Couples and marriage counseling
- Trauma and abuse
- Crisis counseling
- Bipolar disorder (BPD)
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related symptoms
- Eating disorders
- Play therapy
- Anger management
- Life transitions
- Adolescent/Teen issues
Our mission at HeadSpace Counseling is to help our clients find a way out of the chaos and arm them with the tools necessary to re-center themselves. We are available when you need a guiding and supportive hand or your burden begins to feel too heavy.
Bearing this in mind, we offer an individualized approach to counseling by utilizing some of the following:
- Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT)
- Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT)
- Play therapy for children ages 3 -10
CBT focuses on addressing irrational thought patterns that are harming your overall well-being. REBT also focuses on addressing unhelpful thoughts and behaviors but takes a more directive approach.
Play therapy helps young children work through psychological issues that may be affecting them, by utilizing play to communicate and redirect, so that they may have a better chance at a happier, more secure childhood.
